Prominent Nanaimo realtor Roger McKinnon, who was among the first students at the then-Malaspina College back in 1969, has made a big contribution back to his alma mater.

Last week McKinnon confirmed a pledge of $10,000 to the campaign to build the New Library at the Nanaimo campus.

“I got my start at Malaspina and I have built a good career from what I learned there,” he said. “ I have seen Malaspina grow tremendously over the years; my children have studied there and done well too, and I am very glad to be able to contribute to help future generations of students.”

McKinnon was one of the founders of the Malaspina students Business Club, and has since contributed as a Director and Chair of the Malaspina Foundation which works to raise funds for student support and new equipment for the university-college.

McKinnon’s pledge has helped to bring the total raised to date for the Library to just over $1.2 million. The fundraising is a vital component of the $10 million cost of almost doubling the size of the current Library, and greatly expanding its technology and learning resources for Malaspina’s 10,500 students.
