In March 2018, VIU's Tracy Vandermolen, Administrative Assistant, Intercultural and Group Programs, applied for a Leave for Change grant through the Global Engagement Grants program for VIU employees provided through the Faculty of International Education. Her application was successful and eight months later, she landed in Hanoi, Vietnam to complete a three-week volunteer placement with Discovery Indochina, a company centered around practices in sustainable tourism. While she was there, Tracy contributed her skills and knowledge to an initiative that aimed to reduce the use of single-use plastics in Vietnam.

She wrote a blog about her experiences here.
