LAST CHANCE TO ENTER FESTIVAL OF TREES DECORATING CHALLENGE

November 6, 2013 - 1:52am

There’s still time to enter your group in the TD Community Tree Decorating Challenge, but you’d better get on it quickly.

“Tree set up day for VIU’s Festival of Trees is Saturday, Nov. 16, so if your group is entering, you’ll need enough time to get organized, find a great theme and get all your decorations together,” says Jason Nelson, chair of the Festival of Trees.

“We have more than 35 community trees confirmed so far,” says Nelson. “The goal is to get more than 40 trees to decorate our event this year.”

As added incentive, all designers entering the Community Tree Decorating Challenge will be offered two-for-one tickets to the RBC Tree Light Up Reception on Nov. 21.

Decorated trees will be on display at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre Nov. 21 through 29, with the public invited to view them, vote for their favourite, and purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win one of the trees.

With more than 4,000 community members expected to view the trees, the Tree Decorating Challenge is an opportunity to network in a fun, festive environment. It’s also a chance to support VIU, with proceeds going to support students and their learning.

Nelson says there’s something for everyone at Festival of Trees, from families to young adults to business owners to adults looking for a glamorous and festive evening out.

Tickets are selling quickly for the black-tie elegant Festival of Trees Gala on Friday, Nov. 29, he says, and there are still tickets available for the Tree Light Up Reception Nov. 21. More opportunities to view the trees and take part in Nanaimo’s most popular holiday activity include the donation-only Public Tree Viewing Days Nov. 22 through 27 and Island Savings Family Days Nov. 23 and 24.
