International counsellors receive royal treatment at Malaspina

Twenty-seven post-secondary education counsellors from around the world visited Malaspina University-College last week and received a personal tour of the campus and royal treatment over a salmon barbecue. Their visit was organized by Marco Qaqish, Coordinator of International Marketing and Recruitment at Malaspina, who joined Malaspina in May.

"The counsellors assist students from prestigous international high schools in deciding what post-secondary institutions to attend," said Qaqish. "By bringing the counsellors on campus and having them tour our facilities first hand, we're hoping they will refer students to Malaspina."

Qaqish said the counsellors were in the region already attending an international conference in Vancouver.

"We thought it was a great opportunity to bring them to Vancouver Island to see our Nanaimo campus." While at Malaspina, the group  toured the Culinary Arts teaching kitchen and labs, student residences, the library and fisheries and aquaculture facilities.

Nazan Kabatepe, representing Erkat Educational Counselling in Istanbul, Turkey, said it was obvious "that Malaspina has excellent programs in Culinary Arts and Fisheries. I know that some Turkish students will be very interested in these areas," she said.

Myriam Polo de Molina of Colegio Colombo Britanico in Colombia added that Malaspina did a good job showing what is available here.
