The following is a media release issued by the Nanaimo RCMP regarding a bomb threat at the VIU International High School earlier today
Title: Update on bomb search, nothing found
The search of a building at the Vancouver Island University has been completed and students and staff are being allowed back in.
A call was placed to the dispatch line at the VIU International Student High School building at approximately 4 pm, on Thursday October 9th, by a person who indicated there was a bomb in Building 350, which was evacuated. As a precaution Building 345, adjacent to 350, was also evacuated. Approximately 15 students and staff were removed from Building 350 and 60 students and staff from Building 345.
A RCMP Police Services Dog along with other RCMP members entered the buildings at 4:30 PM with the search being completed just before 5 PM. The University has been reopened to pedestrian and foot traffic and roadblocks have been removed. Nothing was found in either of the two buildings which caused any concern.
