Malaspina University-College’s ambitious plans for a 21st century Library will be presented to the regional business community at the annual Malaspina Business Breakfast at the Nanaimo campus Thursday March 27.
The “New Library” project will be historic for Malaspina, its students and the community and will be a model of how learning works for today’s students, including such consumer needs as 24-hour, 7-day openings.
Catherine Whiteley, the Director of the Library, will talk about how libraries, students and faculty function in the world of web research, cordless laptops, and emailed essays. She points out that the majority of Malaspina’s 10,000 students use the Library, whether they are in trades or degree programs, and their needs are widely different.
“We are about to make a big jump into the 21st century with the “New Library project, and it will be very exciting and important not only for our students, but for the many community people who also use the library,” she said.
Every Spring Malaspina University-College Foundation invites business leaders to the campus to showcase aspects of training in the high-tech world at Malaspina. In past years the event has showcased the applied programs division, community education, Malaspina’s use of technology in instruction, and the new Masters In Business Administration degree.
Tickets are $15, and include a buffet breakfast prepared by the Chef Training program. For reservations call the Foundation office at 740-6212. Doors open at 7 a.m..The event will be over by 8.30 a.m. Parking is free.
