‘GivingTuesday’ at Vancouver Island University (VIU) on Tuesday, Dec. 1 is a chance to make a difference in the lives of students.

GivingTuesday is a global movement for charitable giving and volunteering that falls the day after the frenzy of shopping that marks Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Donations to VIU on GivingTuesday – that’s Dec. 1 – will make a difference in the lives of students currently attending VIU, or to prospective students who hope to attend in the future and may require financial assistance.

With a one-day fundraising goal of $35,000, the VIU Foundation and VIU Alumni Association invite alumni, staff and friends of the university throughout the region, to make a donation to VIU on Dec. 1. Donations can be directed to support a scholarship, award or bursary, or designated to a particular faculty or program.

“GivingTuesday is a wonderful opportunity to make a contribution of any size that makes a direct impact on students,” says William Litchfield, Executive Director for the VIU Foundation. “If you have a particular passion or interest that is reflected in programs offered at VIU or in a particular faculty, your donation can be directed there, or you can also choose to direct your gift to the Inspiration Fund, which is a fund assisting the areas of greatest need.”

Donations on GivingTuesday will have double the impact, as they will be matched dollar for dollar by the VIU Foundation.

Donations can be made online at www.viu.ca/giving or by calling David Forrester, Manager, Annual Campaign and Alumni Relations at 250.740.6214.
