All first and fourth year students are invited to provide feedback on their educational experiences at VIU through the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE).
The survey, which is distributed across Canada and the USA, asks students about their experiences at university, both inside and outside the classroom.
NSSE results will determine where the university places in Maclean's Magazine's University Rankings.
In addition, the resulting data will tell VIU about the amount of time and effort students put into their studies, what they think about institutional resources and what helps cultivate their learning and personal development.
Consequently, the university will use the NSSE data to improve the educational experience for VIU students in the future.
All students who complete the survey will be entered into a draw to win one of three 8GB iPod Nanos. The survey will take students 15 minutes to complete and answers are completely confidential.
The invitations were sent by email on Feb. 13, 2012. Once a student receives their invitation, they simply have to make note of their Login ID and click through to the NSSE survey website, found at
The survey will run until early April 2012.
