The Cantabile Chamber Choir, VIU College Singers and Jazz Choirs perform Tuesday, Nov. 30 during VIU Choir Night.

Big band music lovers won’t want to miss Wednesday, Dec. 1 featuring the musical talents of three big bands which include first, second, third and fourth year students.

Finally, the VIU Wind Ensemble performs on Monday, Dec. 6 and will premiere three pieces composed and/or arranged by students. The concert includes a performance by the Dover Bay Secondary School Concert Band.

A total of 140 music students will perform over the four nights. “We’ve been holding end-of-semester concerts for about 25 years,” said Patrick Carpenter, Chair of VIU’s music program. “It’s a wonderful way to showcase student talent.”

All concerts take place in Malaspina Theatre at VIU’s Nanaimo campus, 900 Fifth Street, Nanaimo (building 310). Tickets are $3 ($2 for students) and available at the door.

VIU offers students the opportunity to study music in the four-year Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies or the two-year Jazz Diploma program. Students can also complete a two-year Classical program and transfer to several universities in Canada and the U.S. For further information, visit www.viu.ca
