Vancouver Island University (VIU) is pleased to share that President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Deborah Saucier has been awarded the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal.
This distinguished honour recognizes Saucier’s exceptional leadership, service and contributions to post-secondary education in Canada.
Saucier’s commitment to academic excellence, reconciliation, sustainability and accessibility in education has been a driving force throughout her career. As a proud Métis leader, she has championed initiatives that expand educational access for Indigenous and under-represented communities, promoted sustainability practices and fostered innovation in higher learning.
Saucier’s impact extends across Canada, having previously served as President of MacEwan University and Provost at Ontario Tech University. She plays an active role in shaping Canada’s educational landscape as Chair of the Canadian Bureau for International Education and past Chair of the BC Association of Institutes and Universities. Her leadership contributes to national discussions on access, equity and innovation in education.
The King Charles III Coronation Medal is awarded to Canadians who have demonstrated exemplary service to their communities and country.
