Culinary and Baking Sudents bring back gold medals from EAT Vancouver Competiton

May 28, 2008 - 12:53am

Chefs Debbie Shore and Rita Gower and two star students headed to Vancouver on Friday for the competitions at the EAT Vancouver Show. Baking Apprentice Jenny Jones won Golds medals for her Chocolate Sculpture and her Sugar Sculpture and Bronze for her Chocolates. Last year, Jenny's chocolate work won her a trip to the Belcolade Chocolate Factory in Belgium. After spending the week there watching the master pastry chefs honing their skills she came back with fresh ideas and some new tricks up her chef jacket sleeves. Jenny is starting work at the prestigious Westin Bear Mountain Resort this week. First year Culinary student Carlos Rodriguez won Gold for his Three Course Luncheon in the hot food displayed cold category. Chef Michael Pelletier was his coach. Carlos also medaled earlier this year at the BC Junior Chefs hot competition when he won Silver for his Berkshire Pork dish. Carlos heads to Mission Hill Winery for his summer co-op. Mission Hill just won Best Vineyard Restaurant in North America. All the faculty, staff and students in Culinary are proud of their efforts and wish them all the best!
