Counterfeit currency workshop on Malaspina campus

April 7, 2008 - 2:45am

The Bank of Canada and the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program’s fraud awareness, prevention, and detection class will be giving a counterfeit currency workshop at Malaspina University-College on Wednesday April 9th.

The workshop includes an interactive, hands-on exercise in counterfeit detection, the impact of counterfeiting and how not to become a victim. This free workshop is open to all audiences and may be of particular interest for Malaspina Faculty of Management students concerned about fraud prevention, criminology students, individuals considering careers in law enforcement, and for general knowledge.

This workshop forms part of the Malaspina BBA program’s fraud awareness course curriculum, but because of the importance of the topic, the fraud awareness class and the Bank of Canada have opened the class to anyone who is interested.

By offering this course, Malaspina University-College's Faculty of Management is giving students the opportunity to enhance their competence and literacy in an area that has become crucial for the fully-educated business professional.

Raymond Rocke, an analyst with the Bank of Canada’s regional office for BC and the Yukon, will be on site to provide tips and techniques and to answer questions. Using sample notes, you will be able to see just how easy it is to check that the bank notes you receive are genuine. Complimentary materials will also be provided.

The workshop will take place on Wednesday, April 9, from 11:30 to 1pm at Malaspina University-College in Building 255, room 170. Malaspina Professor Vanessa Oltmann, MBA, CGA, anddeveloper and instructor of the fraud awareness, prevention, and detection course, will be available after the class to answer questions about the course.
