A Panel Discussion
In recent years, creating more inclusive and diverse environments to work, learn and study in has been a key focus – and ongoing struggle – for many post-secondary and public institutions and organizations. This work requires a deep commitment to identify barriers, uncover unconscious bias in processes such as hiring, and develop new ways to celebrate and promote diversity and ultimately transform culture.
VIU recently hosted a panel discussion on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the Post-Secondary and Public Sectors. Our panelists from the public and post-secondary sectors discussed strategies they are using at their own organizations to address EDI and shared thoughts on the path forward.
Panelists:
- Patrick Borbey, President of the Public Service Commission
- Gina Wilson, Deputy Minister of Diversity, Inclusion and Youth, Government of Canada
- Dr. Deb Saucier, President and Vice-Chancellor, VIU
- Dr. Jude Mary Cénat, Professor, University of Ottawa
Moderator:
- Dr. Eliane Ubalijoro, a professor of practice for public and private sector partnerships at McGill University’s Institute for the Study of International Development
