Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce representatives were invited to Malaspina University-College’s Nanaimo campus recently in appreciation of CIBC’s generous donation of $25,000 to endow two permanent scholarships for Malaspina students.
Two awards will be given out annually based on a combination of academic achievement as well as experience in either community service or entrepreneurship and be available to high-school graduates from Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast. In addition recognizing that Malaspina is a regional institution, one award will go to a student attending the Nanaimo campus and one to a student attending the Duncan, Parkville•Qualicum or Powell River campus.
Malaspina president Rich Johnston said, “The price of education is rising which means student financial assistance is more important than ever. Generous gifts from donors like CIBC help ensure that students can continue their university studies.”
CIBC area manager Ian Robertson said, “Large companies like CIBC depend on having an educated, trained workforce. We are proud to provide these permanent scholarships so that two deserving students can attend Malaspina and get an excellent undergraduate education.”
