It took eight years, but De Robertson of Campbell River achieved her dream.
Robertson graduated from Vancouver Island University this week with a teaching degree.
“I’m proud of my mom,” said 14-year-old Mitchell Robertson. “She worked hard.”
Robertson commuted between her home in Campbell River and VIU’s Nanaimo campus every day for the past year and a half while completing her post baccalaureate Education degree.
“It was exhausting at times, but if I can do it, anyone can,” said an elated Robertson who attended convocation with her three children and husband Gord.
“I went back to school when my youngest child was three years old. Becoming a teacher was always something I wanted to do. If you’re dedicated, you can make anything happen.”
Robertson credits the support she received from her immediate and extended families to helping make her educational dream a reality.
“This is a big year for me,” she added. “I just turned 40 and now I graduated with my degree. It's a wonderful program. The teachers were very supportive.”
Robertson is now looking for employment as a kindergarten to Grade 7 teacher.
