Looking to add some unique artwork to your collection?

Visual Art students at Vancouver Island University will host their annual painting sale at the Nanaimo Campus on Wednesday, December 3.

In addition to paintings, the sale may include works in other media such as ceramics and prints.

“Members of the public are invited to come and purchase a work of art for a very reasonable price and support our students,” said art instructor Pamela Speight. Average prices for large paintings range between $300 and $500.

“It’s a terrific bargain and a wonderful investment opportunity,” added professor Jane Cole. “Many of our students continue on to become well-known professional artists.”

VIU’s Visual Arts program offers a broadly-based approach to art-making, providing a sound technical foundation while encouraging experimentation and positive risk-taking in pursuit of individual expression.

Faculty members in the Visual Art program are practicing artists who are committed to excellence in teaching, and dedicated to providing students with an exciting, creative environment and the expertise required for careers in Visual Art.

Students studying at VIU can complete a Bachelor of Arts with a Minor in Visual Art. A Major is currently in the planning stage.

VIU also offers a two-year Visual Art diploma. Students can complete two years at VIU and then transfer to another institution to complete a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree (BFA), or some can complete a BFA through Thompson Rivers University’s Open Learning program while studying at VIU.

The painting sale takes place Dec. 3 on the second floor of the Art building (#325) located across the lane from the Nanaimo Art Gallery at 900 Fifth Street. Metered parking is available in front of the Welcome Centre or in student and visitor parking lots.
