Arlette Lewis has been appointed Principal of the Powell River campus.

Lewis was the Acting Principal from September 1995 to August 1996 while the outgoing Principal Bob Butkus was on a year's leave of absence. She was again Acting Principal from October 1997 to September 1998, when the position became permanent.

Lewis said, "I'm really excited about this opportunity and look forward to working with university-college faculty and staff to develop effective programs and services for the community of Powell River."

In between her duties as campus Principal, Lewis is completing her Master's Degree in Leadership and Training though Royal Roads University in Victoria. Her studies include completion of a major research project within Malaspina's academic community. She will graduate in the spring 1999.

Lewis has worked at Malaspina since 1993 and, before that, worked 12 years for Employment and Immigration Canada as an employment counselor, a program administrator, and a labour market information analyst.
