Have you dreamed about taking courses or a full program at Vancouver Island University (VIU)?
VIU’s Advising Centre has introduced a new service geared to help prospective students explore educational options and design a plan to get started.
At “Explore Your VIU” sessions held every Tuesday at the Nanaimo campus, potential students will get a chance to explore programs VIU has to offer and what might be a good fit. The weekly sessions, from 10 to 11 am in building 250, room 308, will give participants an opportunity to make connections with each other and University Educational Counsellors.
“It’s another opportunity to support anyone who might be considering enrolling in any trades, certificate, diploma or degree program during summer semester 2014, fall 2014 and beyond,” explains Jennifer Merner, VIU Educational Counsellor and Coordinator of the Advising Centre. “It’s never too early to plan ahead. We want to help people connect with advisors and another group of potential students well before they start classes.”
Explore Your VIU sessions will appeal to anyone contemplating a career change, mature students, those hoping to re-enter the workforce, or stay-at-home-parents thinking about returning to school.
Those unable to attend Tuesday sessions may see an Educational Counsellor for a brief drop-in appointment on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2 pm at the Advising Centre, located in Building 200, top floor.
Educational Counsellors are also available during the summer by phone at 1-888-920-2221 ext 6410 or 250-740-6410 or by email at advising@viu.ca for anyone unable to get to the Nanaimo campus.
Current VIU students who are starting school in September 2013 or January 2014, or those wishing to apply late for programs that are still accepting applications, may contact the Advising Centre on a drop-in basis during July and August, Monday through Friday, 10 am and 2pm, on a first-come, first-served basis.
