The connection between Malaspina University-College and the Nanaimo accounting firm of Johnston, Johnston and Associates got even stronger this week, with the creation of a new permanent endowment to support future accounting students.
Doug Johnston, senior partner in the firm, created the fund with a gift of $7,500 to the Malaspina Foundation, which the Foundation will match.
The fund will provide an ongoing annual award of at least $500 to one of the top students in the Accounting program and support them towards their Certified General Accountant certification.
“Our firm has benefited over the years by having many Malaspina students get practical experience with us, and then joining the staff,” said Johnston. “The caliber of students is very high, and this is our way of encouraging and supporting future graduates.”
Currently six Malaspina alumni are working in the firm.
