A gift of $25,000 from Hub City Paving, has boosted plans for a major expansion of the Malaspina University-College’s central library.

Don Hubbard, general manager of Hub City Paving, confirmed a five-year pledge at Malaspina University-College’s Nanaimo campus this week. The library expansion will be so extensive that it will essentially create a “new” library, which will benefit all students in the university-colleges diploma and degree programs.

President Rich Johnston noted that Don Hubbard and Hub City have been long-time supporters of Malaspina, and have contributed in many ways. “Don is a graduate of Malaspina, and has demonstrated his alumni spirit over many years, and through his work on the Malaspina Foundation Board. I was very pleased by his recent appointment to Malaspina’s board.”

“Malaspina is an incredibly important institution in our community and throughout the mid-Island region,” Hubbard said. “Hub City Paving is happy to support Malaspina University-College as it continues its commitment to excellence in all its programs, from heavy duty mechanics to its new MBA.”

In recognition of Hub City Paving’s gift and history of support for Malaspina, a plaque will be permanently displayed in the new Heavy Duty Mechanics shop where many Hub City employees have trained.
