24-Hour Video Contest Coming to Malaspina University-College

February 26, 2004 - 4:00pm

Calling all budding filmmakers.

A 24-hour video contest will be held at Malaspina University-College March 13 and 14.

The organizers – four Malaspina employees – are looking for eight teams of four people. Community members are welcome to take part.

Teams will gather in Malaspina’s lower cafeteria March 13 at 9 a.m. where they will be given a story idea. They will have 24 hours to conceive, script, shoot and edit a video less than four minutes long. Editing computers and software will be provided but teams must bring video cameras. The cost for each team member is $10.

All videos will be shown during the opening of an art exhibition called datastreams at the Nanaimo Art Gallery, located at Malaspina’s Nanaimo campus, on March 18.

Winners of the 24-hour video contest will be announced at the opening and prizes will be awarded.

“We thought this would be a unique and fun event involving employees and the community,” said Jim Rutherford, an employee in Malaspina’s Digital Media Technology program. Other employees helping Rutherford organize the contest are Johnny Blakeborough, Doug Stetar and Fran Benton.
