Wildlife Concern on VIU's Nanaimo Campus

February 28, 2018 - 12:45pm

Over the past two weeks VIU’s Health and Safety department has been receiving reports about dead rabbits on the Nanaimo campus. The cause of death is unknown as no obvious signs of trauma have been found.

As soon as VIU’s Health and Safety department became aware of the deaths, they immediately connected with VIU’s Resource Management Officer Technology faculty, and with the BC Wildlife Health Program (under the Ministry of Forest, Lands and Natural Resources and Rural Development). The BC Wildlife Health program is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of death.

When more information becomes available we will share it with our community.

We are also working with our community partners as there have been dead rabbits found in the Rotary Bowl area (as reported in the Nanaimo News Bulletin).

If anyone sees a dead rabbit or has any questions please contact safety@viu.ca.

Thank you for your help.
