Here in the Health and Safety office, our sole concern, and focus of what we do, day in and day out, is keeping you safe and healthy at work. We thought we would share some ways you can contact us if you ever feel the need.

There are many ways to decrease injury and improve safety that are quick and easy and the employees in VIU’s Health and Safety Services are here to help.

Take a look below to see the opportunities you, your coworkers, and your departments have to interact with Health and Safety Services.

  1. Be aware of your surroundings: Know the particular hazards of the activities and tasks of your job or workplace. Find out how.
  2. Training: If you’re not sure who to approach on point one we can work with you to make sure you know how to work safely in your job. We can also help supervisors determine what training their workers need to do their jobs safely. Find out how.
  3. Ergonomics: Are you experiencing aches and pains when you are doing certain tasks at work? Find out why and what you can do about it.
  4. Ouch!: Here is some information on what to do next when injuries happen at VIU. Still needing some help with the process? Let us know.
  5. Emergencies!: Thankfully there are a few ways to gather information on emergency procedures at VIU. What you might not know is how to use the information you find. Work with us to develop area-specific plans so that everyone knows just what to do if the time comes.
  6. Get involved: Did you know that VIU has a Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee and most departments/faculties have local health and safety committees? Find out more.

Call us at (250)740-6283, email or stop by the office! If you still can’t find the information you are looking for, let us know!
