Record-Setting Giving Tuesday Campaign At VIU

Vancouver Island University supporters came together to make our fifth annual Giving Tuesday campaign the biggest yet! Throughout November, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students and friends set new records with more than 350 gifts made to the campaign for a total raised of $304,500, a 92 per cent increase from the previous year.

With matching gifts from the VIU Foundation, VIU students and employees will benefit from more than $485,000 to fund student awards, projects, experiences, equipment and teaching tools.

Giving Tuesday continues to grow as a result of the numerous student groups and departments that organize their own fundraising events to support the larger initiative and promote their areas of interest. Scholarships, awards and bursaries for students received the majority of the support this year while program specific initiatives and the new campaign to equip the new Trades Complex and the Centre for Health and Science were also popular with donors. 

A huge thank-you goes out to all employees who supported the campaign this year and a special mention to the VIU Faculty Association who renewed their support for the VIU International Refugee Scholarships with a $10,000 gift for the fourth consecutive year!
