Eleven Nanaimo car dealerships in Nanaimo have joined forces to support the Malaspina University-College Mega Raffle. The dealerships will give away a free Malaspina Mega Raffle ticket ($40 value) to anyone who purchases a used car at a special car sale at Woodgrove Shopping Centre between June 22 and 26.
"We're supporting Malaspina University-College's Mega Raffle because it directly benefits students," said Steve Laird of Wheaton Pontiac GM, and a member of the Malaspina Foundation Board. "Malaspina is a major economic driver in our community and we're happy to lend our support."
The Mega Raffle is an annual fundraiser of the Malaspina Foundation. All proceeds will be used to purchase furniture and equipment for student use in Malaspina's new $14.1-million Library on the Nanaimo campus.
The Library, which officially opens in September, will serve more than 14,000 students. It will also be available for community use. The Library doubles the space for books, special collections, and student study areas. The building will house multiple computer stations, scanners, CD burners, video and sound editing stations, advanced software and a wireless environment, making it one of the most technologically advanced libraries in the country.
Pat Dennison, Chair of the Malaspina Foundation, said she is "absolutely delighted" with the support from local car dealerships. "This is a terrific gesture on their part - to help support our efforts to make the new Library a comfortable place for students."
Dennison is optimistic that with support of Nanaimo car dealerships, other businesses and individuals in the community, tickets for the Mega Raffle will sell-out quickly. The total prize package is valued at more than $125,000. First prize is $50,000 cash, or ownership in a dream vacation suite in the Comox Valley, or a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire Coupe or a 2005 Buick Rainier AWD.
The second prize winner can choose between $25,000 cash, a dream kitchen, or a 2005 Smart car convertible or a 2005 VW Jetta GLS. Third prize is $10,000 cash or a dream vacation, patio or workshop. Fourth prize is a dream Fairwinds golf package, including top of the line men’s and ladies golf clubs. Other prizes include golf passes, Harbour Lynx ferry passes, dinners at Malaspina University-College’s Discovery Room and $100 gift certificates.
Malaspina Mega Raffle tickets are $40 each, or three for $100. They can be purchased at any campus of Malaspina University-College, Coastal Community Credit Unions in Nanaimo, Parksville, Qualicum, Nanoose and Gabriola; Royal Bank branches in Nanaimo, Duncan, Ladysmith, Parksville, Qualicum, Courtenay, Campbell River, Powell River, Port Alberni; at Canadian Western Bank in Nanaimo; Quality Foods in Nanaimo; and at Woodgrove Centre’s guest services area. Tickets are also available by calling the Malaspina Foundation office at 1-877-740-6258. The Mega Raffle draw takes place July 21.
